Pokhara is Nepal’s second-largest city, behind Kathmandu. The town is around 200 km west of Kathmandu. It is located at the foot of the Annapurna range and is a popular trekking starting place. Pokhara is separated into two areas: the lovely Lakeside Pokhara and the Old City. The lakeside area has many tourist attractions and excellent vistas, whilst the Old City serves as Pokhara’s business hub. You can opt to stay at any location, but we suggest Lakeside. The Lakeside is further separated into the Northside and Southside. Lakeside is so named because it surrounds the Phewa Lake, also known as the Phewa Tal, a beautiful freshwater lake that resembles a mirror. The lake became renowned due to its stunning reflection of the Annapurna range’s high Mt. Machhapuchhre and blue skies.
Phewa lake and water sports is one of the major tourist attraction of Pokhara city and the north shore of the lake has developed into a tourist district, commonly called Lakeside, with hotels, restaurants and bars catering to the tourists. The water from Phewa lake’s outlet is used to generate electricity. The Phewa Power House is located about 1.5 km (0.93 mi) from the southern part of the Phewa lake. A part of the lake is also used as commercial caged fisheries.
